Green Mountain Boxwood Hedge

About

The Green Mountain Boxwood Hedge is a great year round hedge that’s deer resistant evergreen that grows to about 3 feet wide and high.

It flowers in spring and has great looking foliage.

Planting

Location – Partial to full sun and away from heavy drainage areas.  For planting on a hedge row plant 1.5 to 2 feet apart.

When to Plant – Plant when temperatures are cooler such as late fall, late winter or in the early spring.

How to Plant – Dig hole twice as wide as the soil ball and same depth as the roots.  Using a garden fork, work up the soil and mix an equal amount of compost in.    Place Boxwood in the hole and backfill around the hedge with the soil / compost mix.  Protect the top by covering with 2-3 inchs of ground cover such as mulch.  Water and use a slow release fertilizer with nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, and keep 6 inches away from the base.

Pruning

Prune regularly to shape properly.  To keep the plant healthy, prune about a third of the growth every year for three years.  This will renew the plant after 3 years.  You can prune any time of the year except for late fall.
